The first book of poetry, Song Offerings (Gitanjali), was first published by the Indian Society in London in 1912. Almost all the lyric poems are Rabindranath’s own melodies and are devotional compositions with Brahmanical sentiments. Gitanjali was first published in August 1910 (Bhadra, 1317 BS) with a total of 158 lyric poems from the Santiniketan Library Department.
